The dAIbetes project has been featured by the Horizon Europe project DORIAN GRAY following two major European events dedicated to Virtual Human Twins (VHTs), held on October 21st and 22nd, 2025 in Brussels.
The first event, European Virtual Human Twins (VHT) Initiative: Accelerating innovation and making personalised medicine a reality through virtual human twins, brought together representatives from the European Commission, research organisations, healthcare providers and industry to discuss the future of Virtual Human Twins in Europe. Discussions focused on topics including trustworthy AI, data quality, ethics, patient trust, the European Health Data Space, and the integration of VHT technologies into clinical practice.
The second event highlighted leading EU-funded research projects developing Virtual Human Twin technologies for a wide range of medical applications, from diabetes and cardiovascular diseases to cancer and stroke. The meeting provided an important opportunity for collaboration between projects and for aligning ongoing research with the European roadmap for the development of advanced Virtual Human Twins.
Among the projects presented, dAIbetes was recognised for its innovative approach to personalised Type 2 Diabetes treatment. By combining advanced artificial intelligence with privacy-preserving federated learning, the project is developing virtual twin models trained on data from approximately 800,000 patients. These models aim to predict individual treatment outcomes more accurately while ensuring that sensitive patient data remain securely protected. The project ultimately seeks to reduce prediction errors by at least 10% compared with current population-based prediction models.
Being featured alongside other flagship Horizon Europe initiatives highlights the growing importance of dAIbettes within the European Virtual Human Twins community. As collaboration across projects continues to strengthen, these initiatives are helping to shape the next generation of AI-powered, data-driven and patient-centred healthcare solutions.
